notable alerts
alerts that i found bizarre, notable, or just cool for some reason or another
| low quality Puerto Rico test | i find it really cool that emergency alerts in Puerto Rico for the most part have real people read them aloud compared to a computer. the quality of this alert is really low however (CEM; ) |
|
| Local Access Alerts/Emergency Override Systems | youtube playlist containing multiple local access alerts. these are custom systems usually unique to a single station. i find them super unique and fascinating. below are some of my favorites from this playlist: | |
| CW Local Access Alert Drill 1982 | the "HURRICANE!" slide they use is really cool. i would like that on a shirt maybe | |
| Keflavik, Iceland Winter Weather Advisory (November 1982) | i love how archaic this style of character generator looks, and combied with the sounds in the background, this is just so cool to me. especially with this being something from a NATO base | |
| Local Access Alert For KQ2 St. Joseph, MO Dec 9, 2003 | this one is a jumpscare because of how loud and sudden it is. i also love how urgent the bright red slide flashing "EMERGENCY ALERT!" is. there is something so comical about an exclamation point to me | |
| Local Access Alert / Emergency Override System interrupts Nickelodeon | the "gulping" sound is really satisfying to listen to for some reason. however seeing the tv go to static in person would scare the crap out of me, especially younger me | |
| CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL | i find it a little funny just how many times they mention to cancel the previous alert in this one before announcing another one. but at the same time i get it, people still call 911 because they think something is happening during the national test, and it really is a pain to get your message across to everyone (CEM; ) |
|
| 2018 Hawaii Missile Alert Television Broadcast | a television recording of the 2018 Hawaii missile alert false alarm. sadly it doesn't contain the full alert, but its really interesting to see this footage | |
| tsunami warning with music | due to the emergency alert system mainly working over radio, it can lead to audio bleeding into alerts that shouldn't be there. here is an example of music bleeding into a tsunami warning (TSW; ) |
|
| National Weather Service bulletin for Hurricane Katrina | i don't know if this one counts as an emergency alert (as there isn't any footage i could find of an official alert), however im still including it here because its similar enough. this is the weather bulletin issued by the National Weather Service for Hurricane Katrina. this was predicted to be an extremely devastating hurricane, and the alert had to reflect that. as such, this is one of the creepiest weather bulletins ive ever seen. the line "WATER SHORTAGES WILL MAKE HUMAN SUFFERING INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS" especially hits. but this worked, as it made tons of people evacuate |
